Myths about Content Writing

I love being a writer and truth be told, I started this business because of the accolades I had received all my life about how I could put words onto paper, get a message conveyed and an essay completed error-free in half the time of my University peers or students.

I also love journaling and emotionally dumping all my thoughts and feelings onto paper. This is a great stress reliever for me, and one I enjoy during my downtimes.

Now fast forward to my growing Write View business, and I have had quite a learning curve thrown at me!

My business has grown and the road has led to taught me tons about the marketing strategy that I have been ferociously learning. I have had to apply my passion and skillset to match the evidence about what works and what doesn’t. What I know for sure is that the words matter and your engagement counts. If you believe that, then you want it to work for you if you are going to invest the time and effort.

Here are some Common Myths about Content Writing:

Embellishing helps explain and excite the reader. Nah.

Embellishing doesn’t work and is not necessary. Oh, I too can get caught up in loving those flowery, long-running sentences. We naturally desire them to use to make sure our passion and point are being made. But trust me - no one has time or interest in reading all that. Less is definitely more. Make sure every word and sentence is intentional in moving the reader closer to what they are seeking.

Clever Headers that are Catchy are fun hooks. Sadly, no.

Forget the clever headers. A writer’s gift to find a pun or metaphor to shake up someone’s thinking used to be a valued gift in writing. While you may have a place to use this brain genius, your content writing headers is not the place. Research shows that the majority of people only read your headers and do not go on to read the rest, so you must catch the essence of your message in every header.

Keywords and SEO guarantee engagement. Nope.

Your keywords and SEO are essential to get people clicking on your site or writing, but it doesn’t really matter if they don’t stay on your page. How many times we have googled something, and clicked on the first thing that pops up only to realize it isn’t what we are looking for or is not catching our eye with the headers and visual presentation?  The most important part of getting users to your page is to make your content engaging and meaningful.

Your website copy, blogs and email marketing are essential pieces of your marketing strategy. Does your writing content work for you to engage customers?  If you are still believing myths about writing that are holding you back from your marketing vision, or you want a little help, let’s connect.

Love your view,

Kim
